So I just finished reading this article about the differences in the way men and women communicate. Of course this is not the first one I've read on the topic. This particular article was written by a man, and I'm wondering now if the others I've read were also most often authored by men. Here's what irks me.
The articles talk about how men communicate as a means to fix things, whereas women communicate in order to express emotions. They mention that women are better intuitive communicators while men are clueless to reading between the lines. Yet, the author of this particular article continues to cluelessly follow the path he excuses in the piece by saying women can fix this miscommunication by simply being more direct so men don't have to read between the lines.
I say - what a cop out! When a man and woman engage in a relationship together, they need to work together to relate. They both need to put in equal effort toward communicating effectively. This article has the whiny implication that "women have been proven to be better at it, so they should do the heavy lifting when it comes to communication."
Instead of following societally-prescribed gender roles, and using them as an excuse for laziness and poor behavior, men could fix these miscommunications before they happen by simply stepping up and starting to talk! And the follow it up with listening! Let's communicate together people...
That's all I got for now. Your thoughts?
